When Rob Veneto applied to be a porter at Sandford Station, he was hoping for a
complete change. A former financial services manager, Rob was looking to emerge from 30 years behind a desk into a more stimulating and stress-free environment.
“Coming from a financial background I was a little surprised at first to get the job,” admitted Rob. “What’s been amazing is how much training we’ve had, within just weeks of starting. We’ve done first aid, manual handling, cross contamination, waste and fire management. I’ve even learnt how to help and support people living with dementia.”
Although there are challenges, they are shared with a dedicated team. “I feel like a different person,” confirms Rob. “I like the freedom to be outside in a beautiful environment, the variety of work and the real job satisfaction that comes from doing something that is helping other people. I don’t miss the numbers; this is so much more rewarding.”
‘It’s amazing how they’ve brought us together, even though we’re all different. I really value working with such exceptional people. There’s a great team atmosphere and I’ve learnt such a lot.’
